IEEE Student Conference: Best Paper Award

Prize winner Sebastian ErnstThe second IEEE Student Conference, organized by the IEEE Student Branch at Hamburg University of Technology, produced a pleasant success for the Institute of Telematics: The student Sebastian Ernst won the € 500 endowed Best Paper Award!

Sebastian Ernst is a 2nd semester Mechatronics master student, having completed his bachelor studies with his thesis titled Mahalle: Connectivity-Aware Neighborhood Management Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks in August 2009 at the Institute of Telematics. He continued and widened the scope of his work as a student research assistant—supervised by the research staff Christian Renner and Christoph Weyer. In this time Ernst has devised and evaluated an improved, reliable and ressource-preserving method for estimating the quality of wireless connectivity of sensor nodes. The preliminary results have been penned in the work Holistic Packet Statistics for Neighbourhood Management in Sensor Networks, accepted for presentation at the IEEE Student Conference 2010. Being persuaded by both content of the contribution and the oral presentation, the jury selected Ernst from more than 20 participants to be awarded with the Best Paper Award.
